Saturday went really well. We had 31 guests, which
included 6 children.
A group
showed up from the Fourth
Unitarian Universalist Society
of Westchester to help with the
serving, and they did a great
job; our new friends pitched in and helped with clean-up as well.
We had a fantastic menu, too:
- Roasted
pork sirloin w/a rub coating
- Breaded pork chops
baked with sweet pickled
peppers
- Broccoli
& caramelized-onion, pasta
casserole
- Bean soup
- started by Ed Walsh,
before he left for his
granddaughter's birthday party
in Philadelphia & then
modified like crazy by the
peripatetic soup chef, Mark
Lederman.
- Take home
was chicken cutlets (and
left-over pork) and a
vegetable rice medley
- The
Pepperidge Farm Guy (Fred)
provided a lot of bread &
cookies for take home as
well.
- We also gave out a lot
of the canned goods from the
kitchen cabinets, as
well as from the pantry
at Holy Name of Mary.
This was our first attempt at supplying
entertainment. One of Council 311
Knights (of Columbus),
Chris Slagle (on guitar),
brought his partner, Rosane (singer), who
preformed pop songs from the 50s
through the 70s. They were terrific,
Rosane is a great singer with an especially
beautiful voice, and Christ is on hel...
heck of a guitar player.
The original
idea floated was to have a
lot of entertainment to liven up the
festivities and make it more of a party; we
wanted it to be a fun and memorable night
for our guests. Though, some of us were privately
scratching our heads and
thinking it was nuts, but
it turned out to be a very
successful. evening.
Attached are some pictures, which include
pictures of the musicians, and some of the
more whacky members of the team.
Everyone enjoyed the
music, and at one point, Mark Lederman left
the kitchen to start dancing
with one of the guests,
which left people clapping &
laughing (with or at Mark...
not sure, comparisons to
Elaine from Seinfeld dancing
style were rampant).
Everyone left with a smile
on their faces, and
compliments and thanks on their lips.
The music and
the soup were the top two winners. |
